here comes the teflon sandwich

Yo La Tengo-Popular Songs, 2009

My co-worker says he likes this but it sounds like a Yo La Tengo album he’s heard before.  I couldn’t argue with that.  Yo La Tengo has been banging them out for almost 25 years out. Consistently good and sometimes great, always something to look forward too.  However the two instrumental tracks at the end are overly long, too loud, and too quiet the other.  Those removed, fine work this time around.

The National-High Violet, 2010

The National is solid structure with a self-serious, solemn bent.  Individually every song on any National album is well-done.  Put them together and then listening to them one after another is snoozeville.  What am I saying here?  Put this album on a mix as the slow side ballast to faster songs.
